Word of the year

The alternative to New Years Resolutions or a way to organize all of your different goals is to chose a word to focus on throughout the year.

Have you picked a “Word of the Year” before?

I have only been doing this for the past few years, but have enjoyed it so much better than making resolutions I was just not going to keep up.  Focusing on a single word as your anthem for the year is honestly in my opinion more feasible and meaningful.

You can use that word to set goals or intentions for each area of your life but have them all tie back to the single word. For example, if your word of the year was “focus” you might have sub-goals of investing time in focusing in areas that you need to i.e..  friendships, or hitting an income goal, career, or spending more quality time with the people you love without your phone. “Discipline” could be going to the gym, sticking to a routine, and no longer being late to important things.

By connecting all of your goals back to your overarching word, it is easy to keep them fresh on your mind.

A good thing to help you is to post the word in a place you will see daily examples, bathroom mirror, a sticky on you computer monitor at work, your phone screen, on your fridge, on the front of your planner. Or something awesome is to create a bracelet of some sort with your word on it like my husband's here.

You can get the item that makes these here... Or if we're friends we can make it for you!

The idea is to be intentional about this. Because this is your word something you chose.

A great idea for us Christians is to link our word to a verse in the bible or a handful of them. These can be your verses for the year and hey it will help you to memorize God's word.

So what is the best way to help you find a word? Think about what you want to accomplish this year or an area you need growth in, etc.

There are a few quizzes online to help with that to!

Here is one that I personally like..

The Word I had for 2020 was Intentional, I wanted to be intentional in everything in my life.

I wanted to be intentional in my kids lives,

In my marriage,

In my spiritual life.

In my friendships.

In my Home life.

I focused on all that this year and felt I was intentional in all those areas.  Even though a pandemic hit and I could be with friends we were intentional in doing weekly zoom hangouts being intentional with each other. We were intentional in following Gods path for our family and moving us to a different state and I was more intentional with my kids and marriage (thanks 2020 pandemic for that).

This year the word I have chosen is COURAGE!

I want to be courageous in all that I do. I want to be courageous in the things that God is calling me to do.

The bible says in Deuteronomy 31:6

"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

I have known this verse and this week when searching for the word it really struck out to me.

I want to be strong and courageous in every aspect. I want to not have fear entering into my field f favor. I want to do the scary things that God has been calling me to. I am excited to be on this journey this year, and my prayer is that you go on a journey too!

Please let me know if you have a word for 2021, I would love to know what it is!

If you've never done a Word for the year, I encourage you to think about it and really consider doing one this year and see how you like it. I know I was skeptic at first but the 3 years I did it, I really enjoyed the growth I had.
