Life is not a competition, but that is not what we are taught our whole lives, is it?
From babies, moms compare their kids. "My baby got their first tooth, my baby can crawl, my baby can walk, mine said mommy" etc etc.. the list goes on. I know as moms some of us are not trying to compare but that is not the message we are portraying to our children. They are getting the message that they need to be better and smarter and faster.
I mean just think about our school system the kids are graded and the students with the highest grades get honor roll and those that aren't as good don't get any pats on their backs they aren't given as much time from teachers or adults because they "aren't as good" No the kids that have good grades are put on pedestals. From school to sports to adult hood, everything becomes a competition.
But it should not be that way. God doesn't compare us and that's what should matter right? Well we still don't listen, we constantly compare ourselves to other people. Who's hair is prettiest, who weighs the least amount, I just think when I go to running events, everyone wants to get the fastest mile time and finish first. Me, I am not in the run to be the fastest or fast but to do the mileage and say I ran that!! Why does everyone always have to compete? If you run a 7 or 8 or 9 minute mile good for you, that's awesome, I run a 10-11 min mile and I am happy about that cause at least I can! And everybody always compares their sizes with each other. But why? do you really care? Do you really want to be like the other person or better than them? Why can't we ever be happy with the person that God created us to be? God created each of us special and different. And we should be so proud of that. I know I am , I don't care if i run slower than you or i wear 2 sizes bigger or weigh 40 pounds more than you, I am who i am supposed to be and as long as I take care of myself and am the person God has called me to be than that is good enough.
And I urge you to do the same. You are a creation of God and you have been made the person you were meant to be. You are not meant to be me or some other person. You are meant to be you, so ...
Be You!!
