So this weekend I got to go up to a cabin in Tahoe and just have some quiet time away from everything to pray and spend time with God and just relax.
To tell you the truth I wasn't really looking forward to it, because well if you know me I don't "relax" very well! I mean really? To spend 5 hours ALL BY MYSELF in absolute quiet and to pray for that long? I wasn't extremely excited about it, but I went and in my mind huffed and puffed about it. I even tried to find excuses for all my babysitters!!! But to tell you the truth, I went and actually enjoyed it, and the time just went by so fast I felt.
I found this really nice area right by a stream of water in the sun and sat there! ( see picture below).
And I prayed, and I relaxed and you know what? I loved it! I felt like I got a lot of answers and came back a little more refreshed!
I mean I knew I needed to relax I just don't always know how to! Do you ever feel that way? I think so many people are always going, going, going and forget to stop and just look around, or are afraid to slow down! I mean really! Do you ever really see the other people around you? In the other cars, at the store, in a restaurant? I feel like maybe sometimes we just go through life with side visors up! Just focused on whats right in front of us instead of around us. I know I do sometimes, even though I am a people watcher, do I really see the people around me? Maybe the woman sitting in the corner of a coffee shop needs a smile, it might brighten her day! Or the guy in the car next to us at the light, maybe he is troubled about something. No instead we just go through life just worrying about where we have to be next and what we have to do. We are so absolved in the next thing that we forget about the now. People used to talk to each other and smile at each other. Now our heads are in our technology!
I mean really our society is losing its ability to socialize! The studies say that our children are growing up in a world of gadgets and technology that we are not teaching them to socialize and talk to people instead, they text, really? Because that's proper grammar! I think it's sad really! Even though I am very guilty of this myself! Does anyone else feel this way?
I mean the Bible tells us that we should be out there sharing God's love with others and well, how can we do that when we are so focused on whats next instead of now? Or so absolved in our technology that we don't even see the people around us?
Maybe it's just me! But I know that I try to fill my schedule with things to do because I am so afraid of stopping. I might actually see someone in need of prayer, or need a smile or just need eye contact.
So I am going to try and slow down and see the people around me and be a smiling, friendly face that might just lift up their day, or moment! Maybe I am weird for thinking this way but I know it bugs me even though I do it too. I am going to try and Relax a little more(we'll see if this happens! LOL)
I think we all need to slow down, and look around and see this world you are rushing through, that's what its here for, for us to enjoy it! Don't you think? Something to ponder on!!
